Mark Coombs
Mark Coombs, Chief Executive Officer of Ashmore Group plc and Chairman of the Investment Committees. Mark has been involved in Emerging Markets since joining Grindlays Bank plc in 1983. Following its acquisition by Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ) Mark was appointed Head of Emerging Markets Group for ANZ Merchant Bank Limited in 1988 and, in 1991, became Head of the International Merchant Banking Division of ANZ Grindlays Bank plc and, in 1997, Head of Markets for ANZ Group. He was appointed to the Board of Emerging Markets Trade Association in 1993 and Co-Chair in 2001. He has been Chairman of the Investment Committee since he established the business within ANZ in 1992, and is responsible for setting the overall investment strategy of funds managed. Ashmore was the subject of an MBO from ANZ in 1999 and listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2006. Mark holds an MA (Hons) in Law from Cambridge University.
Christoph Hofmann
Christoph Hofmann, Global Head of Distribution, joined Ashmore in 2010 and is responsible for sales, marketing, product management and client servicing for the firm¹s institutional and retail clients globally. Prior to joining Ashmore he spent 12+ years at PIMCO Advisors / Allianz Global Investors where he held various management positions in the U.S. and in Europe, including Head of Business Development Equity Products, Chief Operating Officer Global Retail Division, Director of Closed-end fund products, and Head of Offshore Mutual fund sales. Prior to joining PIMCO, he was associated with McKinsey & Co and Nestle. Christoph graduated from the Technical University of Berlin with a Masters of Business Administration (Diplom-Kaufmann). Christoph is a CFA charter holder.
Jan Dehn
Jan Dehn, Global Head of Research and a member of the Fixed Income and Asset Allocation Investment Committee. He joined Ashmore in 2005. Jan has extensive experience of trading Emerging Markets sovereign external debt, local currency bonds, FX, corporate bonds and Frontier Markets. He joined Ashmore from Credit Suisse First Boston, where he worked as a sovereign fixed income analyst covering Latin America, mainly out of New York. He has also covered Eastern European, South African and Mexican markets in a local currency strategy role. Jan worked as a consultant to the World Bank's research department in Washington D.C. on public expenditure issues and commodity shocks. He served for two years as an ODI Fellow in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in Uganda. Jan holds a Doctorate in Economics from Oxford University, a Masters Degree in Quantitative Development Economics from Warwick University and a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Sussex University. He lived for several years in East Africa as a child, where his parents worked for various development agencies and has also lived in the Caribbean. He is a fully qualified wooden shipwright.
Andrew Brudenell
Andrew Brudenell, Head of Frontier Markets investment team and Portfolio Manager of the Global Frontier and Middle East Equity Strategies, joined Ashmore in December 2015. Prior to joining Ashmore, Andrew was head of the Global Frontier Equity Strategy, and Lead Portfolio Manager at HSBC Global Asset Management. He has been in the investment industry since 1997 and has over nine years of investing experience in Frontier Markets. Prior to joining HSBC, he worked as a US Fund Manager at Scudder Investments and as an Asia Pacific Equities Analyst and Global Equities Portfolio Manager at Deutsche Asset Management. He holds an MSc from the London School of Economics and is a CFA charter holder.
Fernando Assad
Fernando Assad, Portfolio Manager, Head of the Multi-Asset and Active Equity Strategies as well as a member of both the Fixed Income and Asset Allocation Investment Committee and the Equity Investment Committee. He joined Ashmore in 2007 after six years at Morgan Stanley where he was a Vice President responsible for management of Emerging Market equities and the launch of the Global Emerging and Convergence Opportunities portfolio within Global Wealth Management in London. Prior to this he worked for SG Asset Management Emerging Markets and worked as an intern in Merrill Lynch Broker Services. Fernando is a CFA Charterholder and has a BA in Economics from the American International University in London.
Alexis de Mones
Alexis de Mones, Portfolio Manager, joined Ashmore's fixed income team in 2012. Alexis started his career in 1997 at Morgan Stanley as an Emerging Markets sovereign credit analyst covering EMEA. In this capacity Alexis notably advised Middle Eastern and Central Asian sovereigns and corporates on their credit ratings and access to the capital markets. From 2002 onwards, Alexis managed Emerging Markets and Global fixed income portfolios at Morgan Stanley, ABN Amro and BlackRock where he was lead investment strategist for the Global Bonds product. Alexis holds a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University and an Honours Degree in Business from EDHEC in France.
Stephan Lowy
Stephan Lowy, Portfolio Manager, joined Ashmore in 2011. Prior to joining Ashmore, Stephan worked since 2007 at Barclays Capital as an Emerging Markets Trader, covering both Asia ex-Japan and Latin America. During his time with Barclays, Stephan has worked in both their Singapore and New York offices. Prior to Barclays Capital, Stephan worked in Australia from 1999 to 2003 in Salomon Smith Barney, Zurich Capital Markets and Societe Generale in a range of trading roles. Stephan holds an MBA from INSEAD and a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Finance and Accounting from the University of New South Wales.
Edward Evans
Edward Evans, Portfolio Manager, joined Ashmore in 2017. Previously, Edward worked from 2009 at Schroders Investment Management in London within their Emerging Markets Equity team. Edward worked from 2007 at ABN AMRO Asset Management as a Portfolio Manager within their Emerging Markets Equity Team. Edward started his career at JPMorgan Asset Management in London, initially as part of the Graduate Business Development Program after which Edward specialised in Far East & Emerging Markets Equity. Edward is a CFA Charterholder and holds a BA Hons in Economics, French and Business Management from Durham University.
