It gives me great pleasure to invite you to the Ashmore Emerging Markets Investment Forum 2017.

The Forum in 2017 marks a very special occasion, namely that we have managed Emerging Markets assets for a quarter of a century! It is the 25th anniversary of our longest running fund, Ashmore Emerging Markets Liquid Investment Portfolio (‘EMLIP’), which was established as the earliest dedicated Emerging Markets Debt investment fund in 1992. Since its inception, the fund has returned more than 18% net annually to investors, handsomely beating its benchmark by over 800bps annually.

To celebrate the journey Emerging Markets have undertaken over the last quarter of a century, we are incredibly excited to have with us two outstanding key note speakers, who will share their individual stories as well as their countries’ journeys along the way:

  • Alfonso Prat-Gay, Former Minister of Treasury and Public Finance and Former Member of the House of Representatives for the City of Buenos Aires (Argentina)
  • Jose Rene Almendras, Former Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Former Cabinet Secretary, Secretary of the Department of Energy (The Philippines)

It is no understatement to say that the last 25 years have been momentous for Emerging Markets. Aside from the many ups and downs along the way, the overriding characteristic has been the unparalleled structural transformation of both countries and corporates. Emerging Markets have grown in economic size, in financial importance and in geopolitical significance as more and more countries have opened themselves up for foreign investments and widened the opportunity set for investors. At the same time, an investment in the Emerging Markets has also provided great financial returns to investors.

This Forum will discuss the big trends in Emerging Markets. Where is the asset class heading and what does this mean for investors? For the world? Through a series of key note speeches and workshops we will hear from Emerging Markets experts as well as Ashmore professionals, such as Jan Dehn, our Head of Research. The full agenda is enclosed.

The Forum will take place at The Connaught Hotel, London, starting at 11am on Wednesday, 8 November and closing with a lunch on Thursday, 9 November. We hope this offers you the flexibility of scheduling your travel and/or combining attendance to this Forum with other engagements you have in London.

I very much look forward to meeting you at the Forum.
